Guatavita, Colombia (Click + to expand)

Guatavita is located 60km/37mi or 1 hour north of the Colombian capital, Bogotá. The small and touristic town lies at the southern part of the Tominé Reservoir, the largest hydroelectric supply of the region (18km/11mi long). Guatavita is well known by locals and travelers thanks to the nearby located Laguna de Guatavita (Sacred Lake of Guatavita), between Tierra Negra and El Rincón, and where more than 5 centuries ago, several indigenous rituals were held involving tribal chiefs covered with gold submerging into the lake.

The Tominé Reservoir is 2.680m/8790ft above sea level. Temperatures for December range between 8°C/46°F and 18°C/64°F with counted rainy days
